Kerala Premiere League is a professional football league in Kerala organised by KFA. It features the best teams of Kerala affiliated to the KFA competing for the Trophy.

History of KPL

KPL was introduced in 2013-14 with 10 teams for men & it was introduced in 2014-15 with 8 teams for women. In the men’s category, Eagles FC won the inaugural edition of KPL, State Bank of India (erstwhile State Bank of Travancore) bagged the trophy twice while Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) won it once. In the women’s category, Wayanad WFC won the inaugural edition of KPL & Marthoma College WFC won the trophy once.

Tournament Structure:

The format for the tournament has kept changing over the years. At present, the teams are divided into two groups, each of which has four or five teams. One Winner & one Runner-up from each group is obtained after a series of 50 matches. The winner & runner-up of Group 1 face-off with the respective runner-up & winner of Group 2 in a Knock-out Semi-final. The winners of the Semi-final get to play in the grand finale.
